Enable thumbnail preview of PDFs in Windows Explorer


The PDF Shell component in Acrobat and Acrobat Reader allows you to see the thumbnails of PDF documents in Windows explorer, on both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Windows. By default, this feature is OFF. You can enable it using a specific setting available in the preferences.



  • Open Acrobat or Acrobat Reader. On the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
  • In the Preferences dialog box, choose General in the Categories list, and then select the Set As Default PDF Handler button.
  • You will be prompted for confirmation.
  • Wait for a few seconds while Acrobat is configured to show thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer.


Adobe CS6 Disable Automatic Updates After Deployment


Adobe Creative Suite 6 and Adobe Creative Cloud include an automatic update mechanism that is part of the Adobe Application Manager and Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application (respectively). By default, this update mechanism uses an Internet connection to check Adobe servers for available updates to installed CS6 or Creative Cloud applications. In certain circumstances, system administrators want to disable these connections. You can disable these connections at the time of deployment using features in the Creative Cloud Packager.

This document explains how to disable the connections after deployment, or when using other deployment methods.
